ICIEA and i-News co-hosted the 8th international tea party in Ai-land Imabari on September 14th. Debbie Shaw from Vancouver, Canada who majored in Environmental Studies at Victoria University talked about the wonder of nature and how she has enjoyed nature so far in her life. The participants were divided into groups and discussed how each person could save energy to contribute to a sustainable economy.
The second speaker, Adrienne Felder (the new ALT of Tamagawa town) witnessed the collapse of the World trade center and from that experience decided to explore the world to know how to lead her life. Before going anywhere else, she visited Ghana t o learn about her own roots and then came to Japan. She spoke passionately with a snappy New Yorker’s accent about her expectation for meeting a lot of people in Japan and experiencing and enjoying cultural differences.
Between the two speeches, i-News members’ homemade cakes and drinks were served. Also, ten foreign participants made unique self-introductions. As one of the attractions of the party, Simon from London played three songs on the piano and the listeners were charmed by his music.
The party was so meaningful and fun that the ninety or so participants found it difficult to leave.
